Sealing And Coating
To correctly seal tiles you must first understand what outcome you are looking for in a sealer. There are many sealers on the market today that offer a wide variety of solutions. The most common types of sealers are penetrating sealers. They are either water based or solvent based. There will always be arguments about which are more effective, however the research Re-Store Marble Tile & Grout have carried out has led us to use solvent based penetrating sealers only.
Firstly we must inspect the site and make sure correct preparation is carried out. Failure to do this properly simply means the sealer will not do its job and warranties will be void. Many tiled surfaces especially around pools need to be pre-sealed. This means that before the tile is even laid a consolidating sealer is required. Once the tile is laid we then use a Re-Store cleaning treatment and a final sealer coat is applied. There are many different outcomes you can expect from many different sealers but below is a list of common benefits.
Benefits:
- A sealer will prevent a build up of sub-surface moisture.
- In many cases it will make cleaning easier.
- It will make the tile more durable to wear and tear.
- It will protect against staining.
- Minimise moisture intake and you will limit mould growth.
- Reduces the risk of efflorescence attack.
- Helps maintain slip resistance.
